NEWS JUST: Govt Releases Grade 10 Student Placement Plan And Reporting Dates

The Ministry of Education has officially released the Grade 10 student placement plan, with reporting to senior schools scheduled to begin in January 2026.

This follows the recent release of the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) results.

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba announced that learners can now access their results online.

The ministry will release school selections and career pathway allocations within the next two weeks, giving students time to prepare for their senior school journey.

Under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), Grade 9 learners are assigned to one of four career pathways: STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), Social Sciences, Arts, and Sports Sciences.

The pathways are designed to match students’ strengths, interests, and performance across multiple subjects, moving away from traditional exam-focused placement.

CS Ogamba highlighted that of the over 1.1 million candidates who sat for the 2025 KJSEA, 59.09% showed potential to pursue STEM pathways, 46.25% were suitable for Social Sciences, and 48.73% could take Arts and Sports Sciences.

“The placements will consider learners’ performance and career pathway choices, ensuring that each student is positioned where they can thrive,” Ogamba said.

The transition aligns with recommendations from the Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms, which emphasizes holistic development and skills-based education.

The ministry also confirmed that admission letters will be issued before January 12, 2026, allowing students sufficient time to report to their respective senior schools.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to support learners during this transition period, ensuring a smooth start to the new academic level.

This new placement plan reflects Kenya’s ongoing shift from a competition-driven system to one that values individual strengths, continuous learning, and career alignment.

It aims to provide every learner with an environment suited to their abilities and future ambitions.

The government urges schools to prepare adequately for incoming students and to follow guidelines that promote safety, health, and a positive learning atmosphere.

Learners and parents are advised to monitor official channels for updates on placement results and reporting instructions.

With these measures in place, Kenya moves a step closer to personalized education where students can pursue their passions while developing practical skills for the modern world.
