A petrol station attendant at East African Oilgas in Karai has provided new details about Mr Jirongo’s final movements along the Nairobi–Naivasha Highway.
The attendant said the former MP drove into the station at around 2:15 a.m., steering towards the fuel pumps but never stopping to refuel.
Instead, he turned and rejoined the highway in the lane meant for oncoming traffic.
Moments later, Jirongo’s Mercedes-Benz collided head-on with a Climax Company bus carrying passengers from Nairobi to Nakuru.
The impact dragged his car several metres before the bus came to a stop.
The attendant rushed to the scene and found Jirongo slumped over the steering wheel with visible head injuries.
Emergency services were alerted immediately, but the politician was already deceased.
Other witnesses provided further context.
A boda boda rider observed Jirongo drop off a woman near a Naivasha hotel shortly before the crash.
A motorist saw him parked briefly on the roadside as he stopped to answer a call of nature.
The bus driver confirmed the Mercedes-Benz appeared suddenly in his lane, causing the collision.
Police have begun retracing Jirongo’s movements from the last known sighting at a Karen restaurant around 11:00 p.m. to the crash at 2:00 a.m.
Investigators are also considering whether the former MP had a licensed firearm with him, although none was recovered at the scene.
Jirongo’s family has arranged for a multi-party post-mortem with government and independent pathologists to ensure transparency.
They continue to call for a thorough investigation, citing inconsistencies in the official account of his final hours.
The incident has raised public and political concerns, leaving many questions about the circumstances that led to the death of the veteran politician.
