Homa Bay County, Kenya – Tragedy struck on Lake Victoria near Remba Island after a fishing boat collided with a ship traveling from Uganda to Kisumu, leaving three fishermen dead and one injured.
The victims have been identified as Fredrick Odhiambo, Pascal Oluoch, and Wickliffe Mino, all residents of Sindo Main Beach in Suba South Constituency. The surviving fisherman was rescued and is receiving medical attention.
According to Edward Oremo, chairman of the Homa Bay County Beach Management Unit (BMU), the fishermen were asleep after casting their nets when the ship struck their boat.
The impact caused the boat to split into three parts, with the section carrying the three fishermen sinking immediately.
“The three men drowned as they could not swim,” Oremo said.

“The fourth fisherman managed to hold on to another part of the boat until he was rescued by other fishermen.”
