New Dawn In Western As Details Emerges What Young Politicians Are Plotting Against Weta & Mudavadi

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula have dominated politics in Western Kenya, leading efforts to forge alliances at the national level and providing political direction for the region.

Afrer 2022 general election, the duo secured key positions in the Kenya Kwanza government after aligning with President William Ruto, and since then they have wielded significant influence in both regional and national politics.

However, in recent months, their influence in Western Kenya has begun to face resistance from energetic young politicians such as Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, and Saboti MP Caleb Amisi, who have proved to gain strong grassroots connections.

The youthful politicians have emerged as thorns in the side of Mudavadi and Wetang’ula, challenging their leadership style and claiming that the two have failed to deliver development to the region.

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya said he aims to unite Western Kenya and Kenyans at large ahead of the 2027 election, without stating explicitly whether he is eyeing a national position.

“These leaders have fundamentally failed in the leadership of Western Kenya and the country at large. My goal is to unite Western Kenya and Kenyans as a whole ahead of the 2027 election.
There is no meaningful development, no new jobs they have brought to our region,” Natembeya said.

He added that Mudavadi and Wetang’ula’s influence is derived from their close association with President Ruto, which he said is meant to shield them from political risk.

He emphasized that Western Kenya lacks a political leader who can speak on behalf of the community at the national table, and said he is ready to provide the leadership required.
