Cherargei alleged that Owino was preparing to leave the movement, arguing that his departure would significantly weaken the political formation ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The senator also turned his focus to Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, claiming that the ODM politician could struggle to secure a political vehicle for the next elections.
According to Cherargei, Sifuna could eventually leave ODM and join the Ukombozi Party of Kenya associated with Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya.
“If Babu Owino leaves Linda Mwananchi movement, which he will leave soon, the movement will COLLAPSE,” Cherargei said.
He further claimed that Sifuna would eventually defect to what he described as the Luhya party led by Natembeya, predicting that the Nairobi senator would instead take up a leadership role within the community.
Cherargei also made a prediction concerning Siaya Governor James Orengo, claiming that the veteran politician would eventually return to ODM.
“Orengo will run back to ODM party while atoning his grievous sins,” he added.
The remarks come amid reported differences over the future political direction of Linda Mwananchi and the party through which its leaders could contest the 2027 elections.
Owino said on Tuesday that he had held discussions with Sifuna over the choice of a political party for the movement.
The discussions reportedly involved Ukombozi People’s Party and Owino’s own political party, with a coalition arrangement also emerging as part of the discussions.
Owino has nevertheless dismissed claims of a fallout with Sifuna. He has maintained that the two remain allies despite pursuing different elective positions in 2027.
The Embakasi East MP has also indicated that he will not attend every Linda Mwananchi rally as he concentrates on his campaign for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat.
