"Shame On You" Politcs Plays Out In Mt Kenya As Uhuru Goes After Jubilee Leaders Attacking Gachagua

Political landscape is shifting in the vote rich Mt Kenya region, after retired President Uhuru Kenyatta publicly defended former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, from being attacked by some members Jubilee Party.

The former Head of State warned Jubilee leaders against insulting the former DP, Mr. Kenyatta expressed disappointment over what he termed as divisive and abusive politics being promoted by some of the party’s officials.

Speaking on the afternoon of Friday, in Murang’a County during a grassroots meeting of the party, Uhuru urged Jubilee members to immediately stop using social media to demean others and instead engage in respectful and constructive discussions that build the party.

“Sometimes I feel saddened to see people online claiming to defend the party by insulting Rigathi Gachagua and others. I don’t want such nonsense in my party. People should do politics with respect,” said Mr. Kenyatta.

“It’s shameful that many of them are party officials. I insist before I officially hand over this party, if I see them continuing with that behavior, I will not hesitate to reprimand them publicly and expel them. I don’t want to hear such things again.” he added

In addition, Mr. Kenyatta publicly rebuked Jubilee Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni, urging him to immediately stop leading other members in attacking Mr. Gachagua.

He called on all party leaders to focus their energy on promoting Jubilee’s policies and objectives instead of spending much of their time hurling insults at other leaders online.

“Let’s stop the blame games and exchanges. A true leader is one who spreads ideas, not insults. Let’s agree that Jubilee is not a party of abuse,” he emphasized.

During the same grassroots meeting, Mr. Kenyatta also endorsed former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i, describing him as a visionary and hardworking leader who deserves a higher leadership position in the country.
