Analysts Suggests How Uhuru Could Be Sabotaging Ruto, Gachagua In Mt Kenya Ahead Of 2027 Elections

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s return to active politics appears to be causing anxiety within former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua and President William Ruto’s political camp.

According to the report from Taifa Leo, the move seems to be disrupting political strategies within the Opposition coalition, led by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

The recent move by Mr Kenyatta to hold a major public rally for his Jubilee Party in Murang’a County, where he was reportedly accompanied by the party’s presidential candidate Fred Matiang’i, has caused anxiety in both Opposition and Kenya Kwanza administration.

While appearing to endorse Dr Matiang’i, the former president urged Mt Kenya residents not to defy his advice this time as they did before the 2022 General Election when they voted for the current president.

“I warned you then, but you didn’t listen and woke up to elect these people. Now, aren’t you seeing for yourselves?” Mr Kenyatta said, without offering further explanation.

Mr Kenyatta urged the residents to support Dr Matiang’i, describing him as a visionary and hardworking leader who can complete the development projects he himself initiated during his administration and which remain unfinished.

Mr Kenyatta’s statement has angered President Ruto’s allies, who interpret it as questioning the current Kenya Kwanza government’s capability and development agenda at a time when it is striving to convince citizens to grant it another term after 2027.

And according to Professor Gitile Naituli , the move by former president Uhuru Kenyatta by endorsing Dr Matiang’i in the Mt Kenya region, Mr Kenyatta has upset Democracy for the Citizen Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua.

“Without a doubt, Gachagua’s camp has interpreted Mr Kenyatta’s move as provocation, considering that the former deputy president has insisted that he is the one who will direct the region’s political path heading into 2027 General Elections."
