Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader and Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga Odinga has dismissed concerns about his health, assuring Kenyans that he is “very well” following a recent visit to hospital.
Oburu said he only went to hospital for a general medical check-up and consultations with his doctors before returning home.
In a statement posted on his X account on Tuesday, September 1, the veteran politician thanked Kenyans for expressing concern over his wellbeing and sought to clarify reports surrounding his hospital visit.
“Thank you for your concerns. I have read the Nation’s digital news and wish to state that I am very well,” Oburu said.
He explained that his hospital visit was brief and insisted there was no reason for the public to panic.
“Being sick is a normal human experience and should not alarm anyone,” the ODM leader added.
Oburu further promised to personally inform Kenyans should he ever develop a serious health condition, describing himself as a transparent person.
“The day I am truly sick, I will inform you all, for I am a very transparent person,” he stated.
The clarification comes amid renewed public interest in the senator’s health following reports of his recent hospital admission.
Oburu was admitted to Nairobi Hospital in August 2026. His specific medical condition was not publicly disclosed, although people close to him confirmed that he had received medical attention. He was later discharged and continued recovering at home.
The Siaya senator has previously travelled abroad for medical treatment. In November 2022, he went to Yashoda Hospital in Hyderabad, India, where he underwent surgery for a longstanding knee problem.
Following the successful procedure, Oburu said he had received good treatment and was recovering well.
His health also attracted public attention following the death of his younger brother, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, in October 2025.
Oburu temporarily reduced his public engagements before travelling to Dubai, where his family said he took time to recover emotionally and physically after the bereavement and a demanding period of political activities.
Despite periodic concerns about his health, Oburu has remained active in politics and continued undertaking his duties as ODM leader and Siaya Senator.
His latest statement is expected to ease concerns among his supporters, with the veteran politician maintaining that he remains in good health.
