Tuju appeared before Kibera Law Courts Chief Magistrate Stellar Atambo on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, where he denied the charges brought against him by the State.
The prosecution, led by the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP), accused him of providing misleading information contrary to section 129(a) of the Penal Code.
According to the charge sheet, the incident occurred on March 21, 2026, at Entim Sidai Spa and Wellness Sanctuary in Karen, located within Lang’ata Subcounty.

It is alleged that Tuju informed the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) at Karen Police Station, Purity Kobia, that he was being trailed by unknown individuals and had later been abducted.
The prosecution claims that the information given to the police was false and intended to mislead law enforcement officers.
The charge of giving false information is considered a serious offence under Kenyan law, particularly when it involves public officers performing their duties.
During the court session, Magistrate Atambo recorded Tuju’s plea of not guilty, allowing the case to proceed to the next stages of hearing. The court also addressed preliminary matters related to bail and bond terms.
Tuju’s legal team requested the court to grant him reasonable bail conditions, arguing that he is a person of established standing and that the court should consider his health status when making its decision.
The defence urged the court to ensure that the bond terms are fair and do not interfere with his well-being.
The prosecution did not oppose the request for bond but maintained that the court should set appropriate conditions to ensure Tuju’s attendance in future hearings.
The case has attracted public interest due to Tuju’s profile as a former senior government official and a prominent political figure.

Legal observers note that the proceedings will test the strength of the evidence presented by the prosecution, as well as the defence’s arguments regarding the circumstances surrounding the alleged report.
The court is expected to give further directions on the matter in upcoming sessions, including possible mention dates and pre-trial proceedings. Witness statements and other evidence will likely be presented as the case progresses.
As the matter unfolds, it remains a closely watched case in Kenya’s legal and political circles, given its implications for accountability and the handling of reports made to law enforcement authorities.
For now, Tuju remains presumed innocent until the court determines the outcome of the case after a full hearing.
