“Just Because You Were Fired Doesn’t Mean Ruto Must Go Too” Ngunjiri Wambugu Tells Gachagua

Former Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu has criticized former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of trying to drag the Mount Kenya region into emotional politics.

Wambugu said Gachagua is focusing too much on his own dismissal from government instead of presenting a clear plan for the community.

Wambugu argued that Gachagua only wants people to sympathize with him because he was fired, and then extend that anger toward President William Ruto.

According to him, this approach does not provide real answers to the economic and social challenges facing ordinary residents.

“Just because you were dismissed from office does not mean Ruto must automatically be removed too,” Wambugu remarked.

He stressed that leadership should be judged by development, not personal grudges.

The former legislator further explained that while Gachagua speaks about WanTam politics, meaning Ruto will only serve one term, he has failed to outline how Mount Kenya will benefit in the two years left before the next election.

Wambugu questioned whether this slogan-driven politics helps farmers struggling with low tea and coffee prices, or young people still searching for jobs.

He also warned that politics is unpredictable. Even if Gachagua’s push to limit Ruto to one term gains support, there remains the possibility that Ruto could extend his leadership into another five-year term.

In such a case, Wambugu said, Mount Kenya risks waiting seven years—two now and five more—without a plan to secure meaningful development.

Wambugu challenged leaders, professionals, and opinion shapers from the region to go beyond slogans and come up with a serious strategy.

He noted that Mount Kenya continues to pay high taxes, and several leaders from the region are already serving in Ruto’s government.

He asked why Gachagua has not explained how these factors can be turned into gains for the community.
