His statements, which appeared to look down upon certain elected leaders from the Mt Kenya region, have drawn sharp criticism from political analysts and members of the public.
During the event, Gachagua claimed that the Mt Kenya community did not elect enough competent leaders in the 2022 elections.
He went on to compare them with other regions, saying that while areas supporting Raila Odinga chose highly educated leaders such as Babu Owino, Otiende Amollo, and Millie Odhiambo, Mt Kenya voters settled for what he called “nobodies” like Kawanjiku and Wamatinga.
Bigambo said Gachagua’s comments reveal a dangerous mindset of dictatorship and arrogance.
“He sounds like a dictator who should be avoided at all costs. Leadership is not about academic papers or high titles; it is about service and humility,” Bigambo said.
He added that Gachagua should look at himself first before judging others, noting that leadership qualifications are not limited to formal education.
Bigambo accused the DCP leader of promoting class division and disrespecting the will of the people who freely elected their leaders.
“When a leader begins to speak as if others are lesser, it shows pride and a lack of respect for democracy,” he noted.
Political observers believe Gachagua’s remarks may further divide the Mt Kenya region, which is already facing political tension after the 2027 succession debate started early.
Some leaders have warned that such statements could alienate Gachagua from grassroots supporters who feel insulted by his tone.
