Led by ODM Deputy Party Leader Godfrey Osotsi, the leaders allege that there is a well-planned political strategy to weaken the party from within by involving ODM MPs in the early stages of President Ruto’s campaign for a second term.
“ODM MPs and officials in Vihiga and Kakamega counties have been included in UDA election and campaign strategy meetings,” said Mr Osotsi.
Mr Osotsi said the move is an effort to uproot ODM’s grassroots base and use the party’s networks for the benefit of Ruto’s 2027 General Election campaign.
ODM leaders say what is unfolding is a coordinated political invasion aimed at weakening the party, as the President forms regional campaign teams that include ODM MPs, accusing UDA of using the Broad-Based Government to penetrate ODM strongholds.
Political analysts say that without Raila, Western Kenya is now open to influence from various parties, a situation President Ruto appears to be deliberately targeting.
“Western Kenya, without Raila, is now an open field, and that is what President Ruto is exploiting,” said political analyst Dismas Mokua.
Sources say regional teams are quietly being formed in Nyanza, Eastern, Coast and Nairobi regions.
In Nyanza, leaders who support the Broad-Based Government have been touring Luo Nyanza encouraging support, while at the Coast the plan has been progressing under the cover of development meetings and harambee fundraisers.
“During celebrations marking Raila Odinga’s 81st birthday held in Kilifi on Wednesday, several leaders spoke emotionally about the ‘long-term sacrifice’ of Mining Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho within the party, insisting that his efforts deserve recognition,” said a source.
Some urged Mr Joho to take over party leadership and run for president or, in one way or another, become President Ruto’s ally in the next election.
