“Your Roads Are Dusty, Mine Will Transform Kenya” – Ruto Angrily Fires Back at Critics

President William Ruto has dismissed opposition leaders questioning his infrastructure agenda, accusing them of lacking vision and planning capacity. He said doubts about his road expansion plans reflect leadership failure rather than genuine concern for national development.

Speaking on Sunday at AIPCA Gatundu North Diocese in Karure, Kiambu County, Ruto defended his administration’s ambitious road programme, insisting the government has both the capacity and commitment to deliver large-scale infrastructure projects nationwide.

The President said his government plans to construct 28,000 kilometres of roads by 2032, building on the 10,000 kilometres completed during former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s tenure, which he said demonstrates that such targets are achievable.

Ruto argued that expanded road networks are essential for economic growth, improved connectivity, and faster development, saying unfinished roads have long held back communities and slowed progress in many parts of the country.

He sharply criticised opposition leaders who claim the plan is unrealistic, saying such leaders are projecting their own failures. According to Ruto, the problem is not resources but a lack of planning when they previously held power.

Using pointed language, the President said some long-serving leaders have failed to improve infrastructure even around their own homes, questioning how they can lecture the nation on development when local access roads remain dusty and muddy.

Ruto maintained that his administration’s approach is based on planning and execution, not excuses, adding that critics only say projects are impossible because they have never successfully planned or implemented major development initiatives.

His remarks come amid opposition resistance to the proposed National Infrastructure Fund and Sovereign Wealth Fund, with Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka warning that the financing model could undermine constitutional principles and parliamentary oversight.

Despite the criticism, Ruto said Cabinet is set to approve the National Infrastructure Fund, describing it as a key step toward mobilising up to Ksh5 trillion to support infrastructure, industrialisation, and Kenya’s transition to a First World economy.
