Former Nyeri member of parliament, Wambugu Ngunjiri, has thanked President William Ruto for acknowledging the achievement of 22-year-old Truphena, who broke the world record for tree hugging.
The Environmental activist Truphena Muthoni had a bold and candid moment with President William Ruto at State House, Nairobi, where she asked him how many hours he could endure hugging a tree.
According to reports, the President hosted the 22-year-old at State House, where he awarded her a Ksh 15 billion ambassador job for a tree-planting project.
On December 25, 2025, Wambugu said Truphena didn't give up when she missed an opportunity to go to Brazil, adding that she stayed focused and did what she's good at: bringing attention to environmental issues close to her heart and important to us.
According to MP Wambugu, what Truphena wanted was to go to Brazil, and it has now happened.
The former MP added that she's going as the official Ambassador for the Ksh 15 billion Tree Planting project.
This was after some Kenyans suggested she should have planted trees for 72 hours instead.
Wambugu added that she's going to get a fully-paid holiday for her and her team, as well as a #HSC.
The environmental activist broke the record in Nyeri, and it was confirmed by the Guinness World Book of Records. She was thanked for spreading awareness on the environment.
In his response, Ruto laughed it off while politely saying how he cannot handle hugging a tree that long; however, instead, he would prefer cheering her on as she does it.
“My dear, I do many things, but I do not want to try that one; that one I leave to you. As for me, my job will be to cheer you on,” Ruto responded.
