Samia Admits Things Are Not Good, Discloses What's Happening Since October 29 Demos

President Samia Suluhu of Tanzania has acknowledged that the nation is still grappling with the aftermath of the October 29 unrest.

She says before the protests, Tanzania enjoyed global admiration as an island of peace, both on the continent and internationally.

She adds that Tanzania’s image suffered a significant blow when violence erupted late last month, causing deaths, injuries and destruction of property.

Samia says the turmoil continues to tarnish the country’s global reputation, warning that the situation appears to be deteriorating with time.

"Before the October 29 elections, Tanzania was famed as an island of peace and considered as such by many countries. But now, as each day goes by, our reputation is declining," she said in Dar es Salaam on Monday.

The President further claimed that the protests and the persistent instability are being fueled by external forces, especially foreign nations uncomfortable with Tanzania’s progress.

"Many who do not wish our country well are annoyed by our love and unity," added Samia, who secured a controversial win in the same election.

The demonstrations were preceded by months of public complaints, with many Tanzanians demanding meaningful electoral reforms ahead of the polls.

This group, led by the country's main opposition party; CHADEMA, accused CCM of relying on fraudulent practices to retain power.

The government, however, ignored this calls and proceeded to organise the elections, which were partially disrupted by protesters, who raided polling centers and destroyed material in some parts of the country.

Reports indicate that Tanzanian youth are organizing fresh anti-government demonstrations scheduled for December 9
