Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has written to Inspector-General of Police Douglas Kanja, expressing deep concern over renewed attacks and rising violence targeting him by hired goons, following the disruption of his political rally in Kariobangi North.
In a letter dated December 1, 2025, Gachagua criticized the growing culture of goonism in Kenya, warning that unchecked political violence is pushing the country toward an alarming state of anarchy and threatening public safety.
The former DP accused the police of repeated inaction under IG Kanja’s leadership, describing the force as the weakest link in addressing political violence and failing to protect his supporters and entourage during attacks at various events.
Gachagua further alleged that certain politicians, particularly those close to President Ruto, have taken over police operations, directing both goons and law enforcement officers to intimidate opposition figures, leaving dissenters vulnerable and unprotected.
He called on the police to urgently investigate and take action against individuals involved in disrupting his rallies, citing past incidents in Limuru and Shamata in November 2024, which saw violent confrontations targeting him and his team.
The letter also highlighted six attacks in 2025 against his entourage, including harassment by Rapid Deployment Unit (RDU) officers on December 24, and more recent confrontations at the PCEA Kariobangi North church, emphasizing a pattern of recurring violence.
This correspondence marks Gachagua’s second formal complaint to IG Kanja, following a similar letter sent on November 12, 2025, reflecting frustration with the lack of police response and growing insecurity surrounding his political engagements.
Gachagua demanded immediate police action after a video circulated on social media showing individuals threatening him, claiming they were linked to a local governor and hired to sabotage his campaigns, particularly in Mbeere North constituency.
Despite the threats, Gachagua proceeded with his campaign in Mbeere North without security incidents, reinforcing his call for law enforcement to uphold public safety, prevent political intimidation, and ensure that violence against opposition figures does not go unpunished.
