Gachagua Sparks Uproar as He Accuses IG Kanja & Murkomen of Turning Goons into a State Unit

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has intensified his attacks on the country’s security leadership, claiming that Inspector General Kanja and Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen will be remembered for allegedly enabling goons to operate as a structured unit within the National Police Service.

Gachagua said the conduct of the police under their watch has raised serious concerns about neutrality, professionalism, and political interference.

In a separate remark, he questioned the purpose of the police deployment to Haiti, claiming that the officers were allegedly sent to learn how to operate like goons rather than to restore peace.

He argued that Kenyans are left wondering whether the mission was a form of “benchmarking” on how to cause political and social disorder.

Gachagua alleged that some units within the police have been working “hand in hand” with hired groups to intimidate political opponents.

He insisted that this behaviour undermines public trust and erodes the credibility of the security sector.

His comments have triggered widespread debate, with supporters praising him for speaking boldly about what they see as the misuse of state power.

Critics, however, accuse him of making inflammatory claims that could endanger national stability.

Security analysts say the former deputy president’s remarks reflect growing tension between senior politicians and the current security leadership.

They warn that such allegations, if left unchecked, could widen political divisions and strain cooperation within security agencies.

The Interior Ministry has not issued a detailed response to the accusations, but officials have previously dismissed similar claims as political theatre.

Police leaders insist that all operations are conducted lawfully and deny any collaboration with hired groups.

Gachagua maintained that he will continue calling out what he terms “state-sponsored chaos” until reforms are implemented.

He argued that the country deserves a security service that upholds fairness, professionalism, and integrity at all times.
