What Oburu Odinga Has Said About Raila Odinga After Assuming His New Role as the ODM Party Leader

Since assuming the role of ODM party leader, Oburu Oginga has pledged to carry forward the vision and initiatives championed by his late brother, Raila Odinga, promising continuity in the party’s commitments and political engagements.

Speaking during ODM’s 20th anniversary celebrations at the Mama Ngina Waterfront in Mombasa on Saturday, November 15, 2025, Oburu told supporters that he fully embraced the responsibility entrusted to him and would uphold Raila’s legacy without fear or hesitation.

“But this position that you all have entrusted to me as ODM party leader, I will handle it just as Raila had done. I have taken up this shield, and I will not show any fear. I will continue to fulfil everything that my brother Raila wanted to see accomplished,” Oburu said amid cheers from party members.

Oburu emphasized that the party’s engagements, including its interactions with the broad-based government, would continue seamlessly, reflecting a commitment to stability and the values Raila Odinga had established.

He framed his leadership as a continuation rather than a departure, assuring ODM supporters that the party’s principles and strategic priorities would remain intact.

By highlighting continuity, Oburu seeks to maintain confidence in the party’s role within national politics, particularly as it navigates its collaboration with the Kenya Kwanza government.

The anniversary celebrations provided a platform for Oburu Oginga to articulate this vision clearly, combining homage to Raila Odinga’s legacy with a forward-looking approach to leadership, unity, and the party’s enduring relevance in Kenya’s political landscape.
