A tragic incident on Tuesday evening has left residents of South B, Nairobi, in deep shock after a delivery rider was brutally killed following a disagreement with a customer over delivery charges allegedly worth Sh2,000.
According to police officers based in South B, the confrontation began when the boda boda delivery rider arrived at the customer’s residence to drop off meat.
The rider is said to have completed the delivery as requested, but when he presented the delivery fee, the recipient refused to pay the amount demanded.
Witnesses told the police that what started as a normal argument quickly escalated into a violent confrontation.
The customer reportedly became aggressive and insisted that the amount the rider was asking for was too high.
Despite attempts to settle the matter verbally, tensions rose further, and the disagreement turned physical.
Police reports indicate that during the altercation, the customer allegedly grabbed a sharp object and stabbed the delivery rider several times.
The injuries were severe, and the rider collapsed at the scene as bystanders watched in horror.
Residents who witnessed the incident said they tried to rush the rider to a nearby medical facility, but he succumbed to his injuries before help could arrive.
Many described the event as heartbreaking, especially because the dispute could have been resolved peacefully.
Police officers later arrived at the scene, cordoned off the area, and began investigations.
The alleged attacker was reportedly still within the vicinity and was arrested shortly afterward.
He is currently being held in police custody as investigations continue, and he is expected to face murder charges.
The police have condemned the killing, calling it a senseless act of violence over a matter that could have been handled in a lawful and peaceful manner.
They also urged members of the public to seek help from authorities whenever disagreements arise instead of resorting to violence.
The incident has sparked anger among boda boda riders and delivery workers in the area, many of whom say they risk their lives daily to earn an honest living.
They are now calling for justice for their colleague and demanding better protections for delivery riders who often face hostility during their work.
