Residents of Keroka town in Kisii County have been thrown into deep mourning after a heartbreaking road accident claimed the lives of two close family members, identified as Vivian and Dominic.
The two lost their lives on their way home from the burial of another relative, turning a day of mourning into an even bigger tragedy for the entire family.
According to a video widely shared on social media, the accident scene was filled with blood and scattered items, showing just how severe the impact was.
The video showed the motorcycle the two were riding lying badly damaged as shocked residents gathered around in disbelief.
Witnesses say Vivian and Dominic were travelling on a motorbike after attending the burial ceremony within Kisii County.
As they approached a sharp corner on their way back to Keroka, a speeding trailer coming from the opposite direction reportedly lost control while negotiating the bend.
The trailer hit the motorbike head-on, giving the two riders no chance of survival.
The tragic accident has left the family devastated, as they now face the painful task of planning yet another burial immediately after laying another loved one to rest.
Many residents have described the incident as a double tragedy that no family should ever have to experience.
Neighbours and friends who spoke at the scene explained that the two were well-known in the community and were returning home quietly after a long day of mourning.
Their sudden death has shocked not only Keroka town but also the entire Kisii community, as many people knew the family.
Emergency responders and police officers later arrived at the scene to assess the situation and control the crowd.
The bodies of the two were moved to the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary for preservation and further examination.
Police have launched investigations to determine the exact cause of the accident.
They are looking into whether the trailer driver was speeding, whether the road conditions contributed to the tragedy, or if there were any mechanical issues with the trailer.
Officers have also urged motorists and boda boda riders to exercise caution, especially when approaching sharp corners and busy highways.
