The political storm inside the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) seems to be getting stronger after the death of its long-time leader, Raila Odinga.
Many leaders and supporters have been debating about the future of the party and who should take charge.
Acting ODM leader and Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga has now issued a strong warning to some leaders he claims are speaking on behalf of the party without authority.
Speaking during an interview with NTV, Oburu made it clear that ODM will not allow confusion from leaders who are now serving in government positions.
He mentioned former Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi, and Nominated MP John Mbadi, saying they should stop commenting on ODM matters unless they officially resign from government roles.
“They don’t speak on behalf of ODM,” Oburu said firmly.
“If they want to represent the party, they have to resign from the government.”
According to Oburu, ODM is going through a sensitive time after the loss of its leader, and only those who are fully committed to the party should speak about its direction.
He added that the party is in the process of rebuilding and organizing itself, and it will not tolerate mixed loyalties or personal ambitions that could cause division.
Oburu also said that his temporary leadership is focused on maintaining unity among members while preparing for proper elections to fill Raila’s position permanently.
He called on ODM members to stay calm and patient, promising that the party will remain strong and true to Raila’s vision of justice, democracy, and equality.
Political observers say Oburu’s statement shows that ODM is trying to draw a clear line between loyal members and those who have joined government ranks.
They believe the warning to Joho, Mbadi, and Wandayi could mark the beginning of new internal battles as the party reshapes its leadership.
