Kathiani MP Robert Mbui has raised fresh concerns about the country’s financial direction, warning that Kenya’s economy is being pushed to the edge by what he describes as excessive borrowing under President William Ruto’s administration.
Speaking during an interview, Mbui said he is deeply worried about the nation’s future, especially if the borrowing trend continues without a clear plan to revive the economy.
Mbui said many Kenyans are already struggling with the rising cost of living, increased taxes, and reduced job opportunities.
According to him, the government should be finding solutions to ease the burden on citizens, not adding more weight through loans that will take years to repay.
He stressed that the constant borrowing has left the public questioning whether the country’s resources are being managed responsibly.
He further claimed that the national coffers are already empty because too much money has been used without visible development or relief for ordinary people.
Mbui argued that if the government continues on this path, Kenya may soon face even tougher financial challenges.
He said citizens deserve transparency on how loans are used and why the government keeps seeking more.
The Kathiani MP also raised concerns about the next general election.
He wondered what President Ruto would do in a second term if the country’s finances are already stretched to the limit.
Mbui questioned whether there would be anything left to support development projects or improve public services if borrowing continues unchecked.
He noted that good leadership means planning ahead and protecting the nation from falling into deep economic trouble.
Mbui urged the government to rethink its strategy, prioritize economic recovery, and reduce pressure on taxpayers.
He said it is the responsibility of leaders to ensure that future generations do not inherit unbearable debts.
