Parliament Comes To a Standstill As Cherargei Clashes With Sifuna, Eddy Oketch & Ositsi Over This

A heated confrontation unfolded in Parliament as Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei found himself at the center of a fierce exchange with Senators Edwin Sifuna, Eddy Oketch, and Godfrey Osotsi.

The clash erupted after Cherargei appeared to defend the actions of Ugandan and Tanzanian authorities accused of mistreating Kenyan citizens across the borders.

The debate quickly turned tense when Cherargei stated that Kenya should respect how neighboring governments enforce their laws, even if it means taking stern measures against foreigners.

His comments sparked outrage among several lawmakers who accused him of supporting oppression and disregarding the welfare of Kenyans abroad.

Senator Sifuna, representing Nairobi, strongly condemned Cherargei’s statement, insisting that Kenya must always defend its citizens regardless of where they are.

He reminded the House that leadership demands protection of human rights, not justification of abuse.

Busia Senator Osotsi echoed similar sentiments, arguing that Cherargei’s stance undermined Kenya’s diplomatic image and could strain regional relations.

Migori Senator Eddie Oketch was equally vocal, saying Cherargei’s comments were a disgrace to the Senate.

He urged lawmakers to remain united in condemning any form of brutality, especially against innocent citizens seeking opportunities beyond the country’s borders.

Despite mounting criticism, Cherargei stood firm, maintaining that every country has its own way of maintaining order and discipline.

His unwavering tone only intensified the uproar, forcing the Speaker to intervene to restore calm.

The dramatic session exposed deep divisions within the Senate on how Kenya should engage its neighbors on human rights and governance issues.

While some legislators emphasized diplomacy and protection of citizens, others called for respect of sovereignty.

The incident has since stirred public debate, with many Kenyans demanding accountability and firmer action to safeguard their dignity abroad.
