Kisumu Woman Representative Ruth Odinga has reignited memories of the disputed 2007 General Election, claiming that Raila Odinga’s presidential victory was unfairly denied.
Ruth said that despite the alleged manipulation at the presidential level, their coalition’s strong performance in parliamentary seats was clear proof of their popularity across the country.
She pointed out that the opposition’s strength was evident when one of their own was elected as Speaker of the National Assembly, a move she said reflected the true will of the people.
Ruth argued that the outcome of that election changed the course of Kenya’s history, sparking a national crisis that could have been avoided had the results reflected the people’s choice.
She further stated that the events of 2007 left lasting scars but also strengthened their resolve to keep fighting for transparent leadership and electoral justice.
Her remarks come at a time when political alliances are shifting again, with many Kenyans still recalling the tension and lessons from that controversial election.
Ruth maintained that history would eventually vindicate those who stood for truth and fairness.
