NEWS JUST IN: Several Terrorists Shot Dead While Attempting to Enter Kenya

A major security operation along the Kenya–Somalia border on Sunday, November 30, 2025, ended with several suspected terrorists being killed after they attempted to cross into the country under the cover of darkness.

The successful operation, carried out by a multi-agency security team, prevented what authorities say could have been a serious threat to Kenya’s national security.

According to a statement released by the Counter Terrorism Policing Kenya, specialised officers monitoring the border noticed unusual movements late in the night.

The militants were reportedly trying to take advantage of low visibility to sneak into the country, but security teams patrolling the area quickly picked up the suspicious activity before the group crossed over.

The officers deployed on the border acted swiftly, intercepting the militants and engaging them in a fierce exchange.

By the end of the encounter, all the suspected terrorists had been neutralised. Images later shared by the officers showed the bodies of the men lying on dusty terrain, though officials did not indicate the exact number killed.

The agency praised the officers involved, saying their vigilance and superior firepower prevented a potential attack on Kenyan soil.

“A group of terrorists attempted to infiltrate our border. Our special teams manning the area responded promptly and dealt with them. Their dedication and quick action will always protect our nation,” the Anti-Terrorism Unit stated.

This latest incident highlights the rising cases of insecurity reported along the Kenya–Somalia border.

Over the past few months, several attempts by militants believed to be linked to Al-Shabaab have been reported, pointing to increased pressure on security agencies to remain alert.

The Sunday attack comes barely one month after another major operation in Garissa County, where the Special Operations Group (SOG) successfully stopped a planned assault by Al-Shabaab.

In that attack, intelligence reports indicated that about eight militants had planted improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in the Welmerer–Yumbia area. Acting on intelligence from local residents, the SOG team moved in quickly, engaged the suspects, and recovered several assembled explosives.

Security officials later commended the community for sharing timely information, noting that such cooperation plays a crucial role in preventing large-scale attacks.

They also urged citizens living near the border to remain vigilant and continue working closely with authorities.

Over the years, the Kenya–Somalia border has remained one of the most sensitive security zones in the region.

Militants from Somalia often attempt to cross into Kenya to carry out attacks, particularly targeting civilians, security installations, and public transport routes.

To counter this threat, Kenya has deployed specialised units, including the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit, the SOG, KDF’s border teams, and intelligence officers working together under a coordinated structure.

Security analysts believe the recent increase in attempted infiltration may be linked to internal pressure on militant groups across Somalia.

Operations by Somali security forces, African Union troops, and allied partners have weakened the groups, forcing some fighters to flee toward neighbouring countries.

In response, Kenyan authorities have stepped up patrols, surveillance, and intelligence sharing to prevent militants from establishing new bases or carrying explosives into the country.

Senior officials have also assured the public that Kenya’s counterterrorism strategies are being strengthened to respond quickly to emerging threats.

Following Sunday’s incident, the government is expected to intensify operations along the border, especially as the festive season approaches—historically a period when militants attempt attacks to attract wide attention.

Security agencies have urged citizens to report any suspicious activity, promising confidentiality and quick response.

“This operation is a reminder that our security teams remain alert day and night,” one officer noted after the operation.

“We will continue protecting the country no matter the challenges.”
