MP Kibagendi Accuses President Ruto of Grabbing Mineral-Rich Land in Kuria East

Kitutu Chache South MP Anthony Kibagendi has accused President William Ruto of forcefully taking over mineral-rich land in Kuria East, Migori County, and deploying General Service Unit (GSU) officers to evict residents who have lived on the land for decades.

Speaking during a press briefing on Tuesday, Kibagendi claimed that the contested area contains valuable mineral deposits and that powerful individuals in government are using state machinery to seize it from locals under the guise of “national development.”

He alleged that several families have already been displaced, their homes demolished, and their crops destroyed, leaving them stranded without compensation.

“This is nothing short of state-sponsored land grabbing,” Kibagendi declared.

“Our people are being intimidated and forced off their ancestral land so that a few individuals can benefit from the minerals beneath it.”

The MP has called for an immediate parliamentary inquiry into the matter, demanding that the Interior Ministry and the National Land Commission clarify who authorized the deployment of GSU officers and under what legal framework the evictions are being carried out.

Local leaders from Kuria East have echoed Kibagendi’s concerns, urging the government to halt the operation and engage residents in dialogue.

They argue that any mineral exploration or extraction should follow proper legal procedures and include community participation and benefit-sharing agreements.

State House has not yet responded to the allegations, but sources close to the administration have dismissed the claims as “politically motivated propaganda.”
