Bomet Senator, Hillary Sigei, has accused Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta of refusing to leave the political arena despite having reached the top of his political career.
He has taken issue with Uhuru's leadership of the Jubilee Party, and his actual involvement in party affairs, including Jubilee's attempt to recapture the presidency 2027.
According to the Senator, Uhuru is trying to compete with DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua for the control of the Mt Kenya region, something a person of his calibre shouldn't be doing.
Sigei says Uhuru, having served for two terms as President, should now await state assignments and not lower himself to regional politics.
"Uhuru Kenyatta was expected to transition from head of state to elder statesman, available for assignments. Instead, he is lowering the stature of his former presidency by competing with Gachagua for the Mt. Kenya region kingship," he said on Citizen TV's Daybreak show on Monday.
He also stressed the need for Uhuru to sit back and let Jubilee's presidential candidate, Fred Matiang'i, conduct his own campaigns uninterrupted.
