Mudavadi made the remarks on September 5, 2026, while meeting United Democratic Alliance aspirants from Kakamega and Vihiga counties at Tom Mboya Labour College in Kisumu.
He was discussing election preparations and criticism directed at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.
The Prime CS questioned why opposition leaders were praising the electoral commission after winning the Ol Kalou by-election before later criticising its work. He said the change raised questions about their confidence in the electoral process.
Mudavadi said attacking the IEBC could weaken public trust in the commission and undermine confidence in the 2027 election before Kenyans cast their votes. He urged leaders to allow the commission to carry out its constitutional and legal responsibilities.
He also argued that opposition parties should prepare clear policies and programmes instead of relying mainly on rallies and political statements. According to him, the presidential race would require candidates to convince voters across the country.
Mudavadi further said the broad-based arrangement involving UDA and ODM had strengthened the government’s position ahead of the election. He said UDA would field candidates from the presidency to county assemblies.
The Prime CS maintained that the government was preparing for a peaceful and credible election and said President Ruto should secure a second term through the ballot.
He also encouraged Western Kenya residents to register as voters, noting that the region’s registration numbers were below its expected level.
The opposition has continued to challenge the government as political parties position themselves ahead of the 2027 polls. The election is expected to attract competition as parties build alliances and seek support across the country.
