Otiende Amollo Breaks Ranks In ODM, Backs Sifuna & Calls Oburu's Move Illegal And Improper

Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo has intensified the internal wrangles within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) after openly siding with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and his “Linda Mwananchi” faction.

In a viral statement, Amollo declared that the true spirit of ODM lies with Sifuna’s people-driven movement, distancing himself from what he described as “belly politics” allegedly associated with Oburu Odinga and his allies.

His remarks have significantly escalated tensions within the party, which is already grappling with deepening internal divisions ahead of the 2027 elections.

Amollo revealed details of a recent National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Mombasa, stating that out of 41 members present, only three opposed the move to remove Sifuna as Secretary General. He identified himself, Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo, and party treasurer Timothy Bosire as the dissenting voices.

According to Amollo, the process used to push out Sifuna was flawed and violated party procedures.

He argued that the decision was “unprocedural, improper and illegal,” insisting that Sifuna should have been granted a fair hearing in line with ODM’s constitution before any disciplinary action was taken.

The fallout has seen Sifuna replaced in an acting capacity by Deputy Secretary General Catherine Omanyo, a move that has drawn mixed reactions within party ranks.

While Sifuna’s supporters have termed it a purge targeting reformist voices, those backing the decision maintain it was necessary to restore discipline.

Amollo’s intervention carries weight due to his senior role as ODM Vice Chairperson and his standing as a respected legal mind.

His alignment with Sifuna signals that the dispute is no longer confined to fringe factions but has now penetrated the party’s top leadership.

The standoff comes at a politically sensitive time. Sifuna’s recent rally in Kisumu under the Linda Mwananchi banner attracted large crowds, reinforcing his growing influence within the party base.

Millie Odhiambo has also warned that efforts to sideline Sifuna risk elevating his political profile instead of weakening him.

Meanwhile, opposition to zoning arrangements reportedly backed by Gladys Wanga and Oburu continues to grow, with critics arguing such deals undermine internal democracy.
