"Preparing a Political Comeback" Two Big Seats Raphael Tuju is Looking To Vie For in 2027 Elections

Former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju is reportedly planning a return to active politics ahead of the 2027 General Election, signaling a possible comeback after years away from the frontline.

Tuju, once a prominent figure in Kenyan politics, has maintained a relatively low profile in recent years, largely due to prolonged health challenges.

His absence from the political scene saw him step back from active campaigning and public engagements, but new developments suggest he may be ready to re-enter the arena.

The former minister has recently resurfaced following a lengthy legal and property dispute that had also kept him in the headlines.

Speaking after the ordeal, Tuju described the experience as life-changing, saying it forced him into deep reflection about his future while strengthening his resolve to remain active in public life.

He has openly credited his recovery and resilience to divine intervention, expressing gratitude for what he termed as a second chance.

According to insiders, this renewed perspective is now shaping his political ambitions as he considers his next move.

At the heart of his consultations is a critical decision: whether to return to his political roots in Rarieda by contesting for the parliamentary seat, or to pursue a more ambitious path by vying for the Siaya gubernatorial position.

The Rarieda seat holds sentimental and strategic value for Tuju, as it is where he built his early political career and established a loyal support base.

A return there could offer a relatively familiar ground, though it would still require navigating evolving local dynamics.

On the other hand, a bid for the Siaya governorship would place him in a high-stakes contest within a region dominated by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

The county is currently led by Governor James Orengo, a seasoned political figure with significant influence.

Sources indicate that Tuju’s supporters are divided, with some urging him to take the safer parliamentary route, while others believe he has the stature and experience to mount a strong gubernatorial challenge.

Analysts note that whichever path he chooses, Tuju will face a competitive political landscape, compounded by questions about his health and long absence from active politics.
