Homa Bay, Kenya — Suba North MP Millie Mabona has come out strongly in defense of Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo following criticism over his continued support for President William Ruto.
Speaking on the current political landscape, Millie Mabona noted that Raymond Omollo was among the few leaders from the Nyanza region who backed William Ruto even before the formation of the broad-based government.
She urged critics to stop targeting the PS, arguing that many Kenyans are unaware of the political journey and personal relationship he shares with the President.
“When all of us were supporting the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, PS Raymond Omollo from Homa Bay and a few others were supporting President Ruto. If he was not in government, how would we have gotten there? Leave him alone because we don’t know the journey he walked with the President,” she said.
Her remarks come amid growing scrutiny of leaders from the Nyanza region who have aligned themselves with the current administration, a move that has sparked mixed reactions among supporters of Raila Odinga.
At the same time, Millie Mabona criticized the leadership of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) over alleged attempts to remove Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna from his position as Secretary General.
According to her, the move was politically misguided and only served to boost Edwin Sifuna’s public profile instead of weakening him.
“The attempt to remove Sifuna only made him more famous. It was the wrong move,” she stated.
The legislator also weighed in on the contentious issue of zoning political parties, firmly opposing the idea.
She argued that all political parties should be allowed to field candidates across the country without restrictions, saying this would enhance fairness and healthy competition.
“I don’t agree with zoning. Let people compete fairly,” she added.
Her comments highlight ongoing divisions and debates within ODM and the broader political space, especially as leaders begin positioning themselves ahead of future elections.
The discussion around loyalty, inclusivity, and political freedom continues to shape the evolving dynamics within Kenya’s political scene.
