Latest Opinion Poll Shakes Opposition as Jubilee Surges Ahead of ODM, DCP and Wiper in Gusii Region

A new opinion poll released by polling firm Mizani Africa has triggered fresh political debate after showing major opposition-linked movements and parties trailing significantly in Kisii and Nyamira counties ahead of the 2027 General Election.

According to the survey, the Jubilee Party associated with former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i emerged as the most popular political outfit in the region with 45 percent support, signaling a major shift in the political landscape within the larger Gusii bloc.

The findings present a setback for several prominent political figures and movements that have recently intensified campaigns across the country.

Among those affected are former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, and veteran ODM figure Oburu Odinga.

The poll placed President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in second place with 17.2 percent support. The Linda Mwananchi movement associated with Sifuna followed in third position with 12 percent.

Meanwhile, Gachagua’s Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) registered 5.5 percent support, while Kalonzo’s Wiper Democratic Movement polled 1.1 percent. The Linda Ground faction linked to Oburu Odinga reportedly received less than one percent support in the survey.

Political analysts say the results may reflect the growing influence of Matiang’i in the Gusii region, where his name has increasingly featured in national political discussions as a possible presidential contender or coalition figure ahead of 2027.

Observers also note that the poll could intensify competition among opposition groups seeking to consolidate anti-government support.

The emergence of multiple factions within ODM-aligned politics, including Linda Mwananchi and Linda Ground, has raised concerns among some leaders about fragmentation within the opposition.

At the same time, the relatively strong performance by UDA in the region may encourage President Ruto’s allies, who have been working to expand the ruling party’s influence beyond its traditional strongholds.

However, analysts caution that opinion polls conducted this far from an election should be interpreted carefully, as political alliances, party popularity, and voter preferences can change significantly before the 2027 polls.

The survey is expected to fuel fresh political realignments as parties continue grassroots mobilization and coalition talks across the country.
