"I Can Chase You Out" Youths Interrupt Oburu's Address in Siaya While Accompanied by Ruto's Allies

A meeting addressed by ODM party leader Oburu Odinga in Siaya County was briefly disrupted after a section of youths interrupted his speech, forcing him to respond sharply.

The incident occurred in Alego-Usonga, where Oburu had attended an event alongside allies of President William Ruto, including Principal Secretary Raymond Omolo.

Tensions rose when a group of youths began heckling during his address. An agitated Oburu did not hold back, warning the youths against disrupting the gathering.

“You Gen Zs are spoiling our meeting. Do you want me to give orders for you to be chased away?” he posed.

The disruption comes amid growing political tension within Siaya and the larger ODM party. During his speech, Oburu took aim at Siaya Governor James Orengo, criticizing him for participating in recent anti-government protests held on June 25.

He argued that the governor should focus more on addressing local challenges affecting residents. However, Oburu signaled that Orengo could still reconcile with the party before the next general election, suggesting the door for dialogue remains open.

The criticism of Orengo has been echoed by several leaders. Alego-Usonga MP Samuel Atandi also faulted the governor for traveling to Nairobi to lead demonstrations while residents in Siaya continue to grapple with issues such as water shortages and poor service delivery.

At the same time, internal wrangles within ODM appear to be intensifying following Senator Edwin Sifuna's second ouster from SG seat.

Despite the rising tensions, ODM leaders have downplayed claims of a looming fallout, maintaining that their cooperation with the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) under the broad-based arrangement remains stable.
