His statement, which came amid rising political tension and youth-led protests, sparked a wave of angry reactions across social media platforms.
In a statement, Gachagua said that opposition figures will storm IG Kanja's office on Monday to enquire about the progress of investigations into the latest attack at Witima Church in Othaya.
“I want to appeal to the Gen Zs to join us in the opposition,” Gachagua said during a public address.
However, Gen Zs didn’t take the call kindly. Many responded with sarcasm, anger, and rejection. They accused Gachagua of attempting to hijack their movement and using their growing political voice for personal political gain.
“Where were you when we were being tear-gassed and shot in the streets?” one user posted on X.
“Now that you're out of favor, you suddenly remember Gen Z?”
Another Gen Z wrote, “We are not your political pawns. We fight for the people, not failed politicians switching sides for survival.”
Here are some of the reactions from Gen Zs;
On TikTok and Instagram, young influencers mocked Gachagua’s remarks through memes, videos, and hashtags like #WeAreNotWithYou and #RejectOldPolitics.
The message was loud and clear: Gen Zs are charting their own political path and are not interested in being absorbed into partisan power struggles.
Some also reminded Gachagua of his controversial remarks from the past, including those where he appeared to defend government excesses or failed to address youth concerns.
“Now you want to be in the opposition? Too late,” one comment read.
While a few youths saw the statement as a sign that the political class is finally taking them seriously, the majority dismissed it as opportunistic.
They called on Gachagua to show genuine support for youth reforms and justice, rather than making political appeals only when it suits him.
