The attack occurred at a Java House outlet located at Western Mall in Kisumu, where Senator Osotsi was reportedly meeting a friend and interacting with members of the public.
The incident has sparked widespread concern across the country, with many terming it politically motivated.
In a statement released on Wednesday, April 8, Junet Mohamed described the assault as “dastardly” and called for immediate action against those responsible.
He urged security agencies to ensure both the masterminds and those who carried out the attack are swiftly arrested and prosecuted.
“Those who planned the attack, alongside those who carried it out, must be quickly arrested and arraigned in a court of law,” he stated.
Junet emphasized that political violence has no place in Kenya, regardless of political affiliation. He warned that such incidents undermine democratic values and create fear among leaders and citizens alike.
He further stressed the importance of safeguarding democratic freedoms, noting that all leaders should be able to engage in political activities without intimidation or threats to their safety.
The Minority Leader also extended his well wishes to Senator Osotsi, expressing hope for his quick recovery and urging that he be supported to resume his duties without disruption.
Details of the incident provided by Osotsi’s Director of Communication, Derick Luvega, indicate that the senator was accosted by individuals believed to be armed.
According to Luvega, the attackers reportedly manhandled the lawmaker in full view of the public, raising serious concerns about security in public spaces.
The assault has triggered nationwide outrage, with political leaders, civil society organizations, and members of the public condemning the act and calling for justice.
