Oburu Odinga Calls Out President Ruto Over Allegations Of UDA Leaders Disrespecting ODM

A fresh political storm is brewing within Kenya’s evolving power dynamics after Oburu Oginga openly criticized William Ruto over what he termed as rising cases of disrespect from leaders affiliated with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) towards the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

Speaking after a lengthy and intense Central Management Committee meeting held on Thursday, Oburu did not hold back, urging the President to take firm action against members of his party accused of undermining ODM’s leadership and influence.

The meeting, which reportedly lasted close to seven hours, brought together senior ODM officials who expressed growing frustration over the current state of affairs within the broader political arrangement.

According to insiders, the discussions were heated, with leaders accusing certain UDA politicians of launching public attacks against ODM figures, using inflammatory language, and allegedly attempting to weaken the party by poaching its members.

These developments, they argued, have created mistrust and strained what was initially seen as a working relationship between the two political sides.

Oburu, who chairs the ODM Central Management Committee, emphasized that while ODM respects President Ruto’s leadership, such respect must be mutual.

He insisted that the Head of State has a responsibility to rein in his allies and ensure political decorum is maintained across party lines.

The fallout from the meeting has already triggered major decisions within ODM. The party announced the suspension of any ongoing or future coalition talks with UDA ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Additionally, ODM has directed its members to immediately cease any form of campaigning in support of President Ruto’s re-election bid.

In a significant political shift, ODM also reaffirmed its intention to field its own presidential candidate in 2027.

Party officials noted that the focus moving forward will be on strengthening internal structures, expanding grassroots support through mass recruitment, and preparing for upcoming by-elections.

Political analysts view this development as a clear indication of widening cracks within Kenya’s political alliances, which could reshape the landscape ahead of the next election cycle.

The tension highlights the fragile nature of coalition politics, where competing interests often collide despite shared governance goals.
