No Seat for the Commander: Pastor Ng’ang’a Bitterly Snubbed at U.S. Church

Pastor James Ng’ang’a of the Neno Evangelism Centre has sparked a new conversation online after sharing his experience of being turned away from a church in California during a recent visit to the United States.

The controversial Kenyan preacher revealed the incident during a TikTok live session that reached over 25,000 viewers.

According to Pastor Ng’ang’a, he had planned to attend the service as a guest worshipper. However, he was reportedly blocked at the entrance after the resident preacher "vetted" him.

Ng’ang’a claimed the American pastor had contacted a colleague in Kenya to ask about his background before deciding he could not enter.

Expressing his frustration, Ng’ang’a told his followers that the host preacher told him he "cannot sit there".

He suggested his reputation for a flamboyant ministry style and his past legal issues in Kenya might have influenced the decision.

Despite being upset by the snub, Ng’ang’a later told his digital congregation that he was welcomed by another church in the same state, which he viewed as a sign of divine support.

This incident has fueled a wider debate about "spiritual gatekeeping" and the cultural differences between African "miracle" ministries and Western diaspora churches.

While Ng’ang’a is a massive figure in East Africa, known for his unfiltered and often controversial sermons, this rejection in California highlights the challenges some African preachers face when traveling abroad.

The news follows other recent headlines involving the Neno Evangelism founder, including his responses to legal disputes and reports concerning his church property in Nairobi.
