Kenya is Treading On Dangerous Ground if Change Is Not Carefully Managed - Moses Kuria Warns

Former Gatundu South MP and ex-presidential economic adviser Moses Kuria has warned that Kenya risks sliding into instability if reforms and national transformation are not handled with care.

In a statement posted on his X account on Tuesday, Kuria said that while change is necessary, leaders must remember that even well-meaning reforms can trigger resistance, confusion, and unintended consequences if they are poorly managed.

“Kenya is not short of transformative ideas. Our challenge has always been how those ideas are implemented,” Kuria wrote.

“Manage change or change will manage you.”

Kuria stressed that the problem lies not in the absence of new policies but in the lack of structured and disciplined rollout.

According to him, when leaders introduce changes without engaging citizens or considering their implications, they risk fueling public anger and creating divisions that could easily spiral out of control.

He explained that history has shown even the most harmless policies can turn into national crises when leaders ignore the importance of consultation and inclusivity.

“Even the best and well-intentioned transformative ideas can lead to anarchy and conflagration if change is not well managed,” Kuria warned.

The former Trade CS further noted that Kenya still has an opportunity to steer away from danger but cautioned that time is quickly running out.

“We still have time, but it is dangerously running out,” he said.
