'Iwe Ya Mwisho' Kisii Mum Tells Daughter, Confronts Her With Mwiko for Returning Home Late at Night

A video from Kisii County has gone viral showing a mother confronting her daughter for coming home late at night. The video, shared widely on social media, touched many Kenyans who remembered how strict their own parents were while growing up.

In the video, the daughter knocks on their metallic door late at night, already aware she is in trouble.

Her mother, holding a mwiko (cooking stick), walks to the door slowly and asks, "Who is knocking at this time?"

When the girl enters the house, her mother immediately asks where she was. “Birthday,” the girl says confidently. But this does not calm the mother, who becomes more upset.

“Whose birthday? Who did you tell you were going to a birthday? What time is this?”

The mother scolds her daughter for smiling every time she is warned and not taking advice seriously.

“You leave this house like a man and come back at midnight like you have hired a watchman. Is this a lodge?”

She continues warning the girl about the dangers of staying out late, reminding her that the world is not safe.

“You must always inform someone where you are going,” the mother says. “This is your home, not the streets!”

The video made many Kenyans laugh and remember their childhoods. Some people shared similar experiences in the comments.

One user wrote, “This reminded me of the time I arrived at 9pm and my mother said she had given up and sent my father to deal with me.”

Another said, “In our home, a mwiko was not just for cooking, it taught discipline too.”

While the situation was serious, many praised the mother for trying to guide her daughter. “This is good parenting. Discipline starts at home,” one user commented.

Many netizens agreed that even in today’s digital age, some traditional parenting methods still work—especially in reminding young people to stay safe and respect house rules.
