UDA MP Exposes Possibility Of Sifuna & Osotsi Exiting ODM Amidst Growing Tension

Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa has predicted that Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi could soon exit the Orange Democratic Movement, citing deepening internal divisions within the party.

Speaking during an interview on Monday, March 30, 2026, Barasa likened the situation to a troubled marriage, arguing that the relationship between the two senators and ODM has irretrievably broken down.

He claimed their recent political conduct suggests they are already engaging with other parties, making their departure inevitable.

Barasa further stated that for ODM to strengthen its bargaining power in future political alignments, it must distance itself from leaders perceived to have divided loyalties.

According to him, a united party free of internal dissent would be better placed to negotiate and remain politically relevant.

His remarks come at a time when ODM is facing significant internal wrangles following the post-Raila Odinga era transition.

The party is currently split into rival factions, including the Linda Mwananchi group linked to Sifuna and the Linda Ground faction associated with senior party figures such as Oburu Oginga and backed by Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga.

Tensions escalated earlier this year after ODM’s National Executive Committee suspended Sifuna from his Secretary General position, a move he successfully challenged in court.

Meanwhile, Osotsi has publicly expressed loyalty to Sifuna, indicating he could follow him should he leave the party.

Despite the growing rift, some ODM leaders remain sceptical about the sustainability of the rebellion, citing organisational challenges and limited resources.
