"Please Have Mercy On Me" UDA Governor Begs Residents As Her County Remains WANTAM Oriented

Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika has urged residents to grant her a second term in office during the 2027 general elections, warning against the county’s long-standing trend of one-term governors.

Speaking at the Farmers Training Centre in Soilo, Nakuru Town West, Kihika argued that frequent leadership changes disrupt development, as new administrations often spend the first years settling before delivering results.

“Young leaders come in, try to find their footing, and after three years, they are still struggling. Nakuru, are we going to repeat the cycles over and over? Going ten steps forward, twenty steps backward?” Kihika asked, appealing for voters’ confidence and mercy.

She emphasized that no leader is perfect but consistency is crucial for development projects to succeed.

Kihika’s push for a second term comes amid shifting political dynamics. Over the past three elections since the 2010 constitution, Nakuru has seen its governors fail to secure a second term.

First Governor Kinuthia Mbugua (2013–2017) lost to Lee Kinyanjui, who was in turn defeated by Kihika in 2022 after her tenure as senator.

The governor faces additional political pressure, particularly from the Kalenjin community, following past disagreements and the growing influence of rivals linked to the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) in Kikuyu-dominated areas.

Kihika is currently deputized by David Kones, continuing the county’s tradition of ethnically-balanced leadership.

Despite these challenges, Kihika remains confident. “I know you will return me back to office because we have worked well together. I have not wronged you much, and though some work remains, we are trying hard,” she said.

On another front, Kihika defended her husband, businessman Sam Mburu, against claims by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua that he influenced police operations to disrupt political rallies, asserting that the allegations were politically motivated.
