Showdown Looms As Governor Orengo Announces Major Linda Mwanachi Rally In His Backyard

Siaya Governor James Orengo has stirred fresh political debate after hinting that he could consider running for president in the 2027 Kenyan General Election while also announcing plans for a major political rally in his home county.

Orengo made the remarks during a meeting with farmers in Alego Usonga in Siaya County, where he had gone to oversee the distribution of farm inputs to local residents.

The gathering attracted a large crowd of farmers and community members, but the event quickly turned into a platform for discussing the future direction of national politics.

Speaking to the crowd, the veteran politician suggested that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) should field its own presidential candidate in the next election instead of backing leaders from other political camps.

According to Orengo, ODM has historically been a strong political party with the capacity to compete for the country’s top seat.

He argued that the party should maintain that tradition as the country prepares for another highly competitive election cycle.

The governor noted that several leaders from across the political spectrum have already begun positioning themselves for the presidency.

Among those he mentioned were Martha Karua, Eugene Wamalwa and Kalonzo Musyoka.

Orengo’s comments have attracted attention because they suggest that he may also be considering joining the race.

While he did not make a formal declaration, the governor indicated that he would not shy away from challenging the current president William Ruto if the opportunity arises within the party.

“If given the chance, I am ready for a contest,” Orengo reportedly told the gathering, signalling his willingness to face the incumbent in the 2027 polls.

At the same time, the Siaya governor criticized sections of ODM leaders who have recently shown closer cooperation with the government.

Without mentioning individuals directly, he questioned whether such political alignment was benefiting the party or its supporters.

He suggested that ODM should instead focus on strengthening its own political agenda and consolidating support across the country.

The remarks come at a time when internal debates are emerging within the party about strategy, alliances and the future leadership direction ahead of 2027.

In a move that could further energize his supporters, Orengo also announced plans for a major Linda Mwananchi rally in Siaya County.

The event is expected to bring together leaders and supporters associated with the growing Linda Mwananchi political movement.

Political observers say the rally could become an important moment for the faction as it seeks to expand its influence within ODM and beyond.

With the 2027 election still months away, early political manoeuvres such as these are already shaping conversations across the country.

Whether Orengo will formally enter the presidential race remains to be seen, but his latest remarks have already placed him among the leaders to watch as Kenya’s political landscape begins to shift.
