"Wacheni Uongo" Ruth Odinga Warns Politicians Claiming That Raila Had Private Conversations With Them

Kisumu Woman Representative Ruth Odinga has cautioned politicians and public figures against making what she described as false claims about private conversations with the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga. 

She warned that such statements risk misleading the public and distorting the legacy of one of Kenya’s most influential political leaders.

Speaking in a statement released on Wednesday, Ruth Odinga said that Raila Odinga’s political beliefs and priorities were never hidden, noting that his ideas were clearly outlined in the well-known ten-point agenda that guided his political engagements and later influenced the formation of Kenya’s broad-based government.

According to her, individuals who now claim that Raila privately shared unique political strategies or personal positions with them are creating confusion among Kenyans. 

She stressed that Raila’s principles were always expressed openly and consistently in public forums, policy documents, and party programs.

“Those claiming that Raila Odinga told them this and that should instead speak about the values he stood for, which were well captured in the ten-point agenda,” she said, adding that the implementation of the agenda remains a matter of public debate, with many citizens still questioning how much progress has been achieved.

Ruth Odinga further noted that Raila was known for engaging with people from all walks of life, regardless of their social or political standing. However, she emphasized that open interaction should not be confused with secret political deals or exclusive private positions.

She argued that spreading such narratives is not only inaccurate but also unfair to the memory of a leader whose political journey was largely transparent and driven by public participation and reform.

Her remarks come at a time when Raila Odinga’s political influence and legacy continue to be widely discussed, especially as Kenya’s political landscape evolves ahead of future elections. 

Several leaders have recently invoked his name while advancing their own political arguments, prompting debate among supporters and observers.

Ruth Odinga urged leaders to focus on the substance of Raila’s work rather than unverified claims. She pointed out that the ten-point agenda addressed key issues such as inclusive governance, electoral reforms, accountability in public office, and the protection of human rights.

She added that the success or failure of these ideas should be measured through real reforms and public accountability, not through stories about private conversations that cannot be verified.

The Kisumu Woman Representative also called for responsible political discourse, saying that leaders have a duty to promote honesty and respect in public debate. 

She maintained that preserving historical truth is essential for maintaining public trust and ensuring that the contributions of national leaders are remembered accurately.
