“Hatutachoma Gari Tena, Tutachoma Dereva” Furious Riders Threaten Bus Driver After Sudden Brakes Cause Bodaboda Crash

 

Tension gripped a busy road after a bus driver narrowly escaped mob action when angry boda boda riders threatened retaliation following an accident that left one rider seriously injured. 

The incident, which drew a large crowd within minutes, raised fresh concerns about road safety and the growing conflicts between public service vehicle drivers and motorcycle operators.

According to eyewitnesses, the accident happened when the bus allegedly applied sudden brakes while moving in traffic. 

A boda boda rider who was riding closely behind the bus was unable to stop in time and crashed into the rear of the vehicle. 

The rider was thrown off the motorcycle and landed on the road, sustaining serious injuries that shocked people nearby.

Good Samaritans quickly rushed to assist the injured rider, while others called for medical help. Within a short time, fellow boda boda operators began arriving at the scene after receiving calls from colleagues. 

Emotions ran high as riders accused the bus driver of reckless driving and failing to consider the safety of other road users.

Some of the angry riders were heard shouting threats, saying they were tired of accidents caused by careless drivers. 

The tense mood created fears that the situation could turn violent, as similar incidents in the past have sometimes led to vehicles being vandalized or burned by mobs.

However, several calm voices within the crowd appealed for restraint, urging the riders not to take the law into their own hands. 

Their efforts, together with the quick response of a few local leaders and passersby, helped to cool tempers and prevent further escalation.

The injured rider was later taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. His condition was not immediately confirmed, but witnesses said he was conscious when he was being assisted into a vehicle for transport to the hospital.

Police officers arrived at the scene shortly afterward to restore order and begin investigations into the cause of the accident. 

Authorities urged all road users to remain patient and avoid reckless behavior, warning that mob justice only creates more problems and can lead to serious legal consequences.

Road safety experts say accidents involving boda bodas and large vehicles often occur due to sudden braking, overspeeding, or following too closely. 

They have repeatedly called for stricter enforcement of traffic rules and better awareness among both drivers and riders.
