Sifuna Finally Reveals Who Could Push Him Out of ODM

Nairobi Senator and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has stated that only party members, through established party structures, have the authority to determine his future in the party.

He dismissed claims that individuals or small groups can force him out, insisting that ODM belongs to its members, not to a few powerful leaders.

Speaking during a media interview on February 3, 2026, Sifuna said there has been growing speculation about his position in the party, but he remains confident that any decision regarding his membership must follow the party constitution. He stressed that no single leader has the power to expel him without due process.

According to Sifuna, leadership positions within political parties are temporary responsibilities given by members, and losing such a position does not automatically mean losing party membership.

He explained that even if he were removed as Secretary General, he would still remain a loyal member of ODM because his commitment to the party goes beyond titles.

The senator also made it clear that he has no intention of leaving ODM. He said he has repeated this position many times in public, adding that his political journey and beliefs are closely tied to the party’s ideals and long-term vision.

His remarks came shortly after reports emerged that Migori Senator Eddy Oketch was considering tabling a motion to remove him from his position.

However, the motion was later withdrawn to allow room for dialogue, a move that helped ease tensions that were beginning to build within the party.

During recent events marking the posthumous birthday of the late Raila Odinga, Ida Odinga called on party leaders to prioritize dialogue and unity.

She warned that internal conflicts and power struggles could weaken ODM at a time when the party needs to remain strong ahead of future political contests.

Siaya Governor James Orengo also came to Sifuna’s defense, saying that pushing him out of the party could damage ODM’s image and unity.

Orengo praised Sifuna for his loyalty and commitment, while cautioning leaders against actions that could divide supporters.

The disagreement comes at a time when ODM is experiencing internal debate over its relationship with President William Ruto’s administration.

Some leaders have supported dialogue and possible cooperation, while others, including Sifuna, have expressed caution about closer political ties.
