Police Officer Kills Girlfriend in Her Room After Night Party, Puts His Friend's ID Card Near Body

Family and friends of 23-year-old Ann Muthoni Ngunjiri are demanding justice after her death in Kayole, Nairobi, in a case that has shocked residents and raised concerns about domestic violence and accountability.

Muthoni’s body was discovered inside her apartment by her roommate, Lucia Wambui, who had returned home and found the door locked from inside.

According to reports, Wambui initially believed her friend was asleep but quickly realized something was wrong and raised the alarm.

Police were later called to the scene and confirmed that Muthoni had died from serious injuries believed to have been inflicted with a sharp object.

Witnesses told investigators that Muthoni had last been seen alive in the company of her boyfriend, Benson Mutiso, who is said to be a General Service Unit (GSU) officer.

The two had reportedly attended a night outing before returning to the apartment in the early morning hours.

The apartment caretaker also confirmed seeing the couple arrive that morning. He told investigators that Mutiso assisted Muthoni into the house before leaving shortly afterward. It was later that day that her body was discovered.

Friends of the deceased have since spoken about what they described as a troubled relationship between the couple.

Some claimed that disagreements between the two were frequent and sometimes intense, and that Muthoni had previously been advised to reconsider the relationship. They expressed regret that their concerns had not prevented the tragedy.

During investigations, police recovered a kitchen knife believed to be connected to the incident. Officers also found an identification card belonging to another individual, said to be a friend of the suspect.

Detectives are investigating whether the card was intentionally left at the scene in an attempt to mislead investigators.

Authorities have named Mutiso as the main suspect and have launched a manhunt to locate him. Police say they are pursuing several leads and have appealed to the public to share any information that could help in tracing his whereabouts.

The case has sparked outrage among residents and activists, with many calling for swift justice and stronger action against cases of gender-based violence.

Family members of the deceased have urged authorities to ensure a thorough investigation and to hold those responsible accountable.
