“Evidence Ndio Hii!” Babu Owino Unleashes Explosive Text Messages, Links Top Minister to Alleged Goon Plot Ahead of Linda Mwananchi Rally

Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has stirred fresh political controversy after publicly displaying what he termed as “evidence” of a planned ambush against him in Kisumu.

Speaking during an interview on KTN News on Monday, February 23, the outspoken lawmaker claimed he received alarming text messages warning him not to pass through Kisumu International Airport ahead of the Linda Mwananchi rally in Kakamega County.

“Evidence ndio hii,” Babu declared as he read out portions of the messages live on air, insisting that there was a coordinated effort to block him and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna from accessing the region.

According to Babu, the texts indicated that certain groups had already been mobilised and strategically positioned at the airport and in the Kondele area.

He alleged that the individuals were acting under instructions from powerful political figures, including a senior Cabinet minister whose name he did not publicly disclose.

In one of the messages he read, the sender allegedly warned him not to use the airport route, claiming that “people have already been assembled and given directions.”

Another message reportedly suggested that some individuals had been paid KSh1,000 each to participate in the planned confrontation.

For security reasons, Babu said he could not reveal the identity of those who forwarded the messages.

However, he maintained that the texts form part of credible evidence pointing to a deliberate attempt to disrupt their political mobilisation efforts.

The legislator also questioned the account provided by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) regarding the violence that erupted during the Western Kenya tour.

He expressed doubts about reports surrounding the death of a man in Mbale Town amid the unrest, arguing that it would not make sense for supporters attending the rally to turn against one of their own.

Babu’s explosive remarks come at a time of heightened political tensions surrounding the Linda Mwananchi movement, which has drawn significant crowds in recent weeks.

While regional police authorities had earlier warned of possible security concerns, government officials have denied claims of organised disruptions at Kisumu International Airport.
