Appearing on Citizen TV, Senator Dan Maanzo argued that these politicians have lost touch with their constituents, failing to speak on behalf of the people they represent amid Kenya's ongoing economic hardships. President William Ruto made so many pledges but has failed to deliver.
"Most people associated with the President are unlikely to be reelected. They can’t speak on behalf of the people they represent," Maanzo stated. He criticized Ruto's administration for doing "too little, too late" in terms of development, pointing to persistent challenges like high living costs, stalled projects, and perceived executive overreach.
The remarks come as a major blow to key Ruto loyalists in Mt. Kenya and other regions, including National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wah Juja MP George Koimburi Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba and others who have aligned with the President amid shifting alliances.
Ichung'wah has remained a staunch Ruto defender, while Koimburi and Wamuchomba recently distanced themselves from former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) and pledged support for Ruto, citing development needs. Their moves were seen as strategic to unlock resources, but Maanzo's comments suggest such associations could prove costly at the ballot box.
Maanzo, a consistent critic of Ruto's governance, has previously highlighted UDA's weakened position in Mt. Kenya following Gachagua's exit and the rise of opposition forces. His latest intervention underscores growing concerns within political circles that proximity to the presidency amid public discontent may translate to electoral vulnerability.
As 2027 approaches, with coalition talks between UDA and ODM ongoing, Maanzo's warning amplifies pressure on Ruto's inner circle to deliver tangible results or face rejection from voters demanding accountability and faster progress.
