Trans Nzoia MCA Breaks Silence on Why They Visited Ruto After Meeting Natembeya

Trans Nzoia County MCAs have broken their silence over their recent meeting with President William Ruto in Eldoret, after widespread speculation linked the visit to an alleged plot to impeach Governor George Natembeya.

Days earlier, the MCAs had paid a courtesy call to Governor Natembeya, where they discussed service delivery, development priorities, and cooperation between the County Assembly and the executive, a meeting that was widely seen as a show of unity.

Political tension rose when the same MCAs later visited President Ruto, triggering speculation among residents and political observers that the lawmakers were seeking support from the Head of State to push for Natembeya’s impeachment.

In a joint statement, the MCAs dismissed the claims, insisting their meeting with President Ruto was strictly focused on development matters and not on any political schemes against the county governor or his administration.

They explained that the Eldoret meeting aimed at lobbying the national government to support stalled and upcoming projects across all constituencies in Trans Nzoia County, to improve livelihoods and accelerate local economic growth.

The MCAs presented an extensive list of road projects in Saboti, Kwanza, Cherang’any, Kiminini and Kitale Town, citing poor road networks as a major challenge to trade, transport and effective service delivery.

Water projects were also prioritized, including the Kiptogot–Kolongolo last mile connectivity project, the Mosongo water scheme allocated KSh 750 million, and the Kabolet–Kitale Town Phase Two project.

President Ruto pledged KSh 1 billion for electricity connections in the county, while also confirming that equipment for the Trans Nzoia Referral Hospital is ready and that the former Kitale District Hospital will be upgraded.

Other issues discussed included relocation of Tuwani prison, leasing railway land to traders, establishment of a public university in Kitale, issuance of title deeds and revival of the Ward Development Fund to boost county development.
