In a statement issued on Wednesday, January 14, Otiende described the claims as false and misleading, warning the public against falling for what he termed deliberate political propaganda aimed at damaging his reputation.
The clarification follows the circulation of a graphic on social media bearing Otiende’s image alongside an attributed quote claiming that the Luo community would support Kalonzo Musyoka because of his past loyalty to ODM leader Raila Odinga.
The fake post alleged that Otiende had said the Lake region would rally behind Kalonzo, citing his support for Raila Odinga in previous elections.
It also suggested that the legislator was criticising fellow ODM leaders, including Suna East MP Junet Mohamed and Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, over claims that they were aligned with President William Ruto.
Responding to the viral post, Otiende, who serves as the Deputy Party Leader of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), distanced himself from the claims, stating that the message did not originate from him.
“The fakers are tireless,” Otiende wrote, dismissing the post as fabricated.
The lawmaker’s response comes just days after he also refuted claims that he had boycotted a recent ODM Central Committee meeting held on Monday, January 12.

At the time, Otiende clarified that he is not a member of the Central Committee and therefore could not have skipped the meeting.
“As Deputy Chair of ODM, I did not boycott any meeting because I am not a member of the Central Committee,” he stated.
The clarification appears aimed at easing speculation about his position within the party, especially at a time when ODM is grappling with internal disagreements ahead of the 2027 elections.
The party has been experiencing divisions over its political direction, particularly concerning cooperation with President William Ruto’s administration.
